SITE 6. ROCK HOT SPRINGS, ALEXANDRIA

LOCATION.

It is located in the municipality of Santo Domingo, between two rivers: the Nare and the Nudillales stream. It is an area rich in rivers with waterfalls and hot springs.

The thermal pools are located on the road leading from Alexandria to Santo Domingo, very close to the Bridal Veil waterfall.

GEOLOGICAL INTERPRETATION

All thermal waters, like underground waters, come from rainwater or snowmelt that infiltrates through the soil; that is, they belong to the hydrological cycle.

Depending on the types of rock it encounters, it can reach greater or lesser depths. Since the ground temperature increases with depth, the water will be warmer at greater depths.

Groundwater can generally be found at depths of 10 to 30 meters, and its temperature is very similar to the average annual temperature in each area.

In contrast, to find warmer water, it's necessary to drill to depths of over one hundred meters. Also, at greater depths, the water has a higher concentration of minerals that have been absorbed from the rocks.
